Inshore Fishing Report Savannah, GA/Hilton Head, SC Fall 2024
(Mini Report)
The bite this fall for redfish has been good! October is often thought of as the month for redfish and November for sea trout. There redfish has been some nice schools showing up around creek mouths, grass edges and around oyster rakes! Redfish aren’t picky and will take a variety of baits : a live or dead shrimp, cut bait, a fly or artificial.
Fishermen are still catching lots undersized reds (less than 15 inches) but most of these are close to legal size. We’re catching nicer reds as well. Currently temperatures are above average. This can mean lots of small fish: pinfish, yellow tail, croaker, tomtates to name some. Despite above average temperatures last week we had some nice sea trout on both incoming and outgoing tides. Sea trout can be school fish. As shrimp move into our local waterways and water temperatures continue to drop the sea trout, redfish bite will likely be heating up! When little bait steelers are thick make sure you have plenty of bait and maybe even some mud minnows, finger mullet or artificials.
Shrimp are still an ideal inshore bait despite having to rebait often due to the amount of bait steelers. As water temperature continues to cools the little fish will vanish and the bite will picking up.
In addition, as water pushes in (incoming tide) from the ocean the water temperature will be slightly cooler and cleaner. The low incoming can be a good for inshore fishing.
Hope this of interest and help!
Fish On!
